SPECIAL EDUCATION

My roles as a Academic Support teacher and Life Skills teacher required me to interpret data, implement programs while monitoring progress, manage multiple stakeholders and subject matter experts, target needs and design individualized solutions, and explain complex concepts to be easily understood. Each student was a "project" in themselves.

Inclusion was a fundamental part of our Life Skills program. We made it a point to access the community whenever we could. We went to The Palace Theater to see plays, the grocery store for shopping and running a school "breakfast shop", yearly apple picking, and local sports arenas.

Light It Up Blue

I collaborated to bring to Bedford HS its annual Light It Up Blue day, a Life Skill's (peer buddy) Bulldog Club, coached the Unified Sports Basketball team and created a book club for teachers to learn about Students with Disabilities.

My Goal: Bring awareness to social interactions between students with and without disabilities. Provide opportunities for interactions to occur, break down barriers preventing authentic interactions, and empower all students to soar.

My Strategy: Activities aimed at open conversation, inclusion, and acceptance.
